GSHPA is now accepting employment applications for those interested in working at our 2014 resident summer camps. This year, our resident camps will be held at Camp Small Valley in Halifax, PA from June 15 to July 14 and Camp Archbald in Kingsley, PA from July 15 to August 11. Staff must report to camp on the following dates for Pre-Camp Orientation, based on position:
Adventure, Lifeguarding, Leadership and Outdoors Staff: May 30 Ranch Staff: May 30 General Staff: June 7
Staff is required to work until August 11, 2014.
Candidates must have an interest in working with children and be able to pass required background checks. All candidates must be able to stay at camp Sunday morning-Friday evening. Some weekends may be required. Room and board along with most meals are provided.

Activity Specialist (Small Valley and Archbald) - Serves a dual role as a Unit Counselor and Activity Specialist; performs the required duties within their assigned unit and create lesson plans and lead activities during their assigned periods. Activity Unit Leader (Small Valley and Archbald) - Serves a dual role as a unit leader and activity leader; As a Unit Leader, responsible for oversight of unit counselors and cabins. Ensuring campers are safe and comfortable as well as planning evening activities for campers. Adventure Director (Small Valley and Archbald) - Oversees the trips, adventure bound, and ropes course departments. Schedules and coordinates daily off-trips, multi-week trips for adventure leaders, and high/low ropes for Activity Specialists/adventure leaders. Adventure Leader (Small Valley and Archbald) - Leads girls on 3-1 week programs outside of camp. Ensures the safety of campers and provide the necessary care concerning the health and well being. May be on or off camp for days at a time. Leading and teaching girls to pitch tents, read maps, and cook over an open fire and/or stove. Provide guidance and encouragement to girls when needed. Teach minimal impact camping, Leave No Trace, and feel completely comfortable in the outdoors and around wild animals. Adventure Specialists (Small Valley and Archbald) - Serves as the daily off- site trips counselor. With guidance from the Adventure Director, plans daily half or full day trips out of camp. Leading girls in a wilderness environment and ensuring their safety at all times. Click here to read more.
Assistant Camp Director (Small Valleyand Archbald) - Assist in the directing and supervising of all camp programs and camp staff. The ACD is responsible for direct oversight of camp in the absence of the Resident Camp Director. Additionally, the ACD will schedule, monitor and support the CIT’s throughout the week. Head Lifeguard (Small Valley and Archbald) - The Head Lifeguard is focused on operating the aquatics program. The position is responsible for ensuring activities are run safely, ensuring the aquatic areas are kept in working order, and inspiring creativity and fun programs while overseeing certified lifeguard staff. Head Wrangler (Small Valley and Archbald) - This 2-part position as the Head Wrangler is responsible for all activities running smoothly within the barn and at the ranch unit. The Head Wrangler oversees that all planned activities are being followed at the barn. Healthcare Supervisor (Small Valleyand Archbald) - Supervises health and cleanliness standards for camp. Works with the Resident Camp Director and staff to provide adequate physical health conditions for all campers. Responsible for the oversight of sick campers and distributing medications. Lifeguard (Small Valley and Archbald) - Responsible to teach and coordinate camp’s waterfront and swimming activities, and to assist in maintaining standards that lead to a quality program and facility. Click here to read more.
Program Director (Small Valley and Archbald) - Schedules, coordinates and oversees activity leaders and specialists for the five program areas. Weekly discussions with the activity leaders to ensure activity specialists are performing at or above expectations. Assists the Assistant Camp Director with the general counselors as needed. Wrangler - Equipment Care (Small Valley and Archbald) - The position as Wrangler-Equipment Care is responsible for managing the maintenance and cleanliness of the equipment. This position oversees managing the tack and replacing, repairing pieces as needed. This position oversees the feeding schedule, first aid and maintenance of horses. Wrangler - Riding Instruction (Small Valley and Archbald) - The position as Wrangler-Riding Instruction is responsible for creating lessons and teaching the girls while being supported by one of the other wranglers. This position oversees the curriculum, scheduling staff to teach lessons whether in the arena or barn, ensuring that all tests are consistent and accurate to the girl/rider manuals according to the appropriate level.
