For All Adults in Girl Scouting

Safety-Wise is directed to all adults in Girl Scouting, with particular emphasis on those who work directly with girls.

If you don't have a copy, please visit one of our council shops.

The following is taken from Safety-Wise ©2000 by Girl Scouts of the United States of America:

Chapter 1: "Responsibility for Safety," describes the safety net provided for girls in Girl Scouting.

Chapter 2: "Group Leadership," will be particularly helpful to new leaders.

Chapter 3: "Group Planning and Budgeting," provides instructions on how to plan a calendar of activites and budget with a group of girls.

Chapter 4: "Basic Safety Guidelines," contains general guidelines that are fundamental to the prudent planning and smooth implementation of most Girl Scout functions.

Chapter 5: "Planning Trips with Girl Scouts," include preparation, evaluation, transportation, and insurance guidelines and a checklist for travel readiness.

Chapter 6: "Girl Scout Program Standards," describes the essential components of a quality Girl Scout experience.

Chapter 7-11: Introduces activity checkpoints, the minimum requirements for common Girl Scout activities.

If you are using this book for the first time, read Chapters 1 to 4 and Chapter 6 carefully. You can start the process of planning particular activities with girls by reading the three-step process in Chapter 7.
