Dear GSHPA volunteers, members, and friends:
With 2020 squarely in our rear-view mirror, we might be tempted to press the gas pedal to the floor and speed away, never to look back. That’s not very wise though. And it’s not the right path to take for the Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania.
These past several months of unprecedented challenges and sustained uncertainty have tested our grit, fed our resilience and made our accomplishments that much sweeter. We can learn much from 2020. This year actually gifted us with the ability to pivot quickly, adapt to challenges and find creative ways to persevere and succeed. It highlighted and tested the very mission that we emphasize daily in Girl Scouting: we build girls of courage, confidence and character. Among its many lessons, this past year proved that our girls -- true entrepreneurs -- can quickly shift from face-to-face engagement to almost everything virtual: from cookie booths to outdoor programs to online patch work and badge work. Our Girl Scout family rallied in every way possible, while keeping health and safety top of mind. I am so proud of our collective accomplishments and thank you for your individual role in making them happen.
These newfound skills will guide us into 2021, building upon and adding to our already strong foundation. Our efficient and somewhat leaner operations have enabled us to move more quickly and effectively in our day-to-day work. The upcoming year brings excitement to our legacy programs and energy for our strategic plans. In just a few weeks we will be kicking off our cookie season with national and local partnerships. We will be hosting a Volunteer Conference in February, and our quarterly online Career Chats are growing in popularity locally and nationwide. Our Girl Scout network will expand as we continue to find new and innovative ways to engage and grow our membership. We are also finding the best ways to utilize our campground properties and outdoor programs in our 30-county geographical footprint.
Know that I am grateful for everything that you do to help move Girl Scouts in a positive direction. With a steady hand on the wheel, I’m looking forward to where the road takes us in 2021.
