Girl Scout vs. Wild Overnight Competition
Girl Scout vs. Wild is GSHPA’s new outdoor skill building series! This final event will test the skills that girls learned/practiced during one of the skill-building events. These skills include: fire building & outdoor cooking, compass use & navigation, wilderness first aid, archery, and pitching a tent & knots. Three practice events took place on June 20th, July 11th, and July 18th. This is the culmination of those three practice events: the Girl Scout vs. Wild Overnight Competition! This event is for girls who attended one or all three of the practice events or for girls that weren’t able to attend any of the practice events, but would like to compete with their troop.
During the overnight competition, girls compete in small groups to showcase the outdoor skills that they honed during any one of the practice sessions. Scorecards are used in each of the five areas to determine the efficiency, skill, and accuracy of the skill being demonstrated. Girls will be able to compete in groups as small as six and as large as ten. If a girl that is not part of a troop would like to compete, she will be added to a team that is in need of an additional girl. More details will be included in a confirmation email that will go out two weeks prior to the event.
This event will begin at 1:30 p.m. on the 8th, but girls are welcome to arrive at 10 a.m. if they would like to practice some of the skills before the start of the competition. If you are arriving to practice, you will need to bring your own bagged lunch.
Dinner on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday will be included for girls and adult chaperones. This is included in the $15 girl fee as well as a Girl Scout vs. Wild patch (if they already received a patch during one of the practice events, they will not receive a second patch). Sleeping will be in Mattis Lodge, the Yurt Village, Glen & Glade Cabins, or Squirrels Nest tent platforms. During the registration process, you will be asked for your sleeping preference. We will do our best to accommodate these requests, but cannot guarantee them.
Troops attending this event must adhere to the girl-adult ratios outlined in Volunteer Essentials. Individual girls must attend with a parent/guardian. All troops must have at least two unrelated adult chaperones. You will only be permitted to register enough adult chaperones for the overnight competition in order to maintain ratio. No additional adults will be permitted.
Cancellation Policy: Program fee refunds will not be issued for cancellations received two weeks or less before the program start date.
