» GSHPA 100th Anniversary campaign reached its goal of $5 million on Dec. 31, 2013 with a committed group of key community members and Girl Scout supporters. Among these supporters, Nancy Besch, from Camp Hill, Pa.; Marion C. Alexander, from Hummelstown, Pa.; and Betsy Keefer, from York, Pa., were specifically honored for their dedication and leadership to the campaign.
» On Saturday, January 4, 2014, an estimated 600 Girl Scouts became marketing mavens, customer service gurus and savvy business leaders when they attended Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania’s (GSHPA) 2014 Cookie Rallies and Cookie College, which provided hands-on workshops to teach girls business skills, to kick off the 2014 cookie program. Cookie Rallies and Cookie College helps girls recognize and use their skills and talents as well as teach them about the five business skills they learn when selling cookies: business ethics, people skills, money management, goal setting and decision making.
» Becky Van Kirk, a Cadette from Girl Scout in the Heart of Pennsylvania’s (GHSPA) Troop 41374 in State College, was awarded the Medal of Honor on Tuesday, November 12, 2013at the Atherton Hotel for the role she played in saving her father’s life.
» All 49 Girls Scouts raised their hands when they were asked if they have ever been bullied or called names at school during Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania’s (GSHPA) aMAZE Weekend, an anti-bullying overnight that took place on Saturday, Nov. 4– Sunday, Nov. 5, 2013 at Camp Small Valley in Halifax, PA. » Music and hearts were pumping fast as over 175 sneaker-clad Girl Scouts shook, twisted, and grooved to diverse dance forms as part of Girl Scouts Just Dance event on Sunday, October 20, 3013.
» GSHPA raised $7,500 during the Fork It Over event at the York Revolution's baseball stadium. While coinciding with the York Revolution's very own Girl Scout night, Fork It Over encouraged Girl Scout supporters and friends to enjoy some local baseball while sampling Girl Scout cookie-inspired appetizers and desserts prepared by 4 local chefs. Each dish was judged based on taste, presentation, display area, and creativity. Judges included Mayor of York, Kim Bracey, Fox 43 anchor, Amy Lutz and longtime Girl Scout and past Girl Scouts in the Heart of PA board member, Cappy Bush of Susquehanna Bank. » Celebrating Girl Scouts' Highest Honor - Congratulations to the newest recipients of the coveted Girl Scout Gold Award. » 78 volunteers recognized at 2013 GSHPA Volunteer Recognitions luncheon. » Over 450 girls and their families gathered in Wilkes Barre on Sunday, April 21 for the official kick-off to our council's year-long challenge to accumulate 1,000,000 activity miles. With inspiring words and insight from 2-time Olympic medalist Jessica Mendoza, girls learned about the value of goal-setting and wanting to be the best from someone who landed a place on both the 2004 and 2008 U.S. Olympic softball team while overcoming her own quirkiness as a child. » On Saturday, January 12, 2013, Daisies, Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors watched GSHPA's very first live Healthy Promise webcast. Whether participating as a member of the live studio audience in Harrisburg at the WITF television studio or watching the live streaming video via their own computers, girls throughout our council experienced a dynamic presentation by the health education experts from the Susan P. » Healthy Promise: Teaching Girl Scouts to Eat Well and Be Active:GSHPA kicked off the council-wide health initiative, Healthy Promise, at Central York High School in York on October 20. Girls got to climb a rock wall, practice their footwork with the team at Soccer Shots, and refine their skills with athletes from the York College Spartans. The grand finale was a concert by the nation’s only rock star nutritionist, Jill Jayne, who got the crowd moving with her musical performance “Jump with Jill!” Click here to view event photos. » GSHPA's New Healthy Promise Initiative is Part of Healthy Kids' Summit:GIANT Food Stores hosted a Healthy Kids’ Summit Tuesday, September 25 at the Susan P. Byrnes Healthy Education Center in York to educate the community about what can be done to alleviate the growing epidemic of childhood obesity. Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania’s very own executive vice president, Ann Goropoulos-Hughes joined fellow panelists to discuss the growing epidemic of childhood obesity along with local, regional and national efforts to address one of the fastest growing health threats facing today’s young people. »Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania receives $10,000 from Wells Fargo Bank: GSHPA received a $10,000 sponsorship for two upcoming 100th anniversary events being held in Hershey and Wilkes-Barre next month. Low income girls will be supported through part of the sponsorship, which will be put towards financial aid to assist with participation costs. The rest will go toward development of area Girl Scouts camps. (August 30, 2012)

» Former Girl Scout Camp Transferred to State - Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), Bureau of State Parks signed a deed today that transfers ownership of Camp Gi Sco Ha, a former Girl Scout camp, to DCNR effective immediately. » Girl Scout Cookie Rallies & Colleges Across the Council: Nearly 1,800 Girl Scouts from across the Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania (GSHPA) Council kicked off the Girl Scout Cookie season for the 100th year of Girl Scouting by attending the Cookie Rally and Cookie College events held in each of the five regions throughout our 30-county service area.
» Troop Pennsylvania Investiture Ceremony: Women members of the Pennsylvania state legislature came together in the Rotunda of the Main Captiol Building in Harrisburg to help Pennsylvania’s three Girl Scout Councils kick off the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouting by becoming honorary members of Troop Pennsylvania.
