Harrisburg, PA (November 2024) – Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania is thrilled to announce the addition of two Conestoga wagons available for reservations starting Spring 2025 at Camp Furnace Hills in Lancaster County.
Once essential for traversing the United States in the 18th and 19th centuries, these iconic wagons have been reimagined as unique, cozy camping accommodations that combine history with modern comforts.
Made by Idaho-based Conestoga Wagon Company, each wagon is fully equipped with heating, air conditioning, and rustic features like a wagon-wheel table, chairs, and three bunk beds, offering Girl Scouts and their families a one-of-a-kind way to connect with nature.
“We’re excited to introduce Conestoga wagons for a one-of-a-kind camping experience at Camp Furnace Hills,” shared William Folk, Director of Camp Property for Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania. “These wagons give our troops an exciting new way to sleep at camp, combining rustic charm with added comfort.”
This project is made possible through partial grant funding by several generous donors, including PPL and others who wish to remain anonymous. The project supports the local council’s goal of expanding outdoor adventure opportunities for Girl Scouts throughout Central Pennsylvania.
Reservations for the new Conestoga wagons are anticipated to open in early March 2025. For more information, please contact Member Services at memberservices@gshpa.org or call 717-233-1656.
