
Harrisburg, PA (January 16, 2024) – Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania is excited to celebrate outstanding women who have been selected as honorees for the organization’s Women of Distinction event on April 24.
Four of the honorees represent each of the pillars of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience which includes STEM, Life Skills, Entrepreneurship and Outdoors. As champions of women in leadership, the selected honorees serve as positive role models and figures of inspiration to girls and women in our local communities. The honorees include:
Dr. Ericka Powell, Lancaster, Vice President of Medical Affairs, WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital; STEM
Delma Rivera-Lytle, York, retired Diversity Education Specialist, Central York School District; Life Skills
Donna Schankweiler, Harrisburg, former co-owner of Central Penn Business Journal; Entrepreneurship
Lauren Ferreri, Lancaster, Biological and Visitors Center Manager, Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area; Outdoors
“We look forward to honoring these women for their accomplishments in the areas of STEM, Life Skills, Entrepreneurship and Outdoors. The four pillars serve as crucial touchpoints for Girl Scouts,” said Miriam DeFehr, Chief Operating Officer of Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania. “Our honorees show girls in our local communities the importance of these fundamentals and the opportunity for success they offer,”
Girl Scouts will also recognize the legacy of Mary “Sue” Elizabeth Stone as this year’s recipient of the Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania Generational Award. This award celebrates those who have lived by and shared the values of Girl Scouts with their community and future generations. We will hear about her journey from her daughters, Margaret Burton Conners and Jane Murray.
The celebration will be held at the Lancaster County Club, 1466 New Holland Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The event will include a mix-and-mingle reception, dinner, silent and live auctions and additional event surprises. Individuals interested in attending must be at least 21 years old.
