Harrisburg, PA (December 2024) – Female legislators in Harrisburg will inspire and empower Girl Scouts with an inside look at government during a special event at the State Capitol.
On Monday, February 3, Troop PA—an honorary Girl Scout troop of bipartisan female General Assembly members—will host its Investiture and Rededication Ceremony at 10 a.m. The event will honor Girl Scouts of all ages and highlight the importance of women in leadership.
Girl Scouts from across Pennsylvania—including Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania, Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania, Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania, and NYPENN Pathways—will participate. Girls will connect with local legislators, tour the Capitol, and earn a government-focused badge, gaining firsthand insight into women’s impact in public service.
“Girl Scouts is all about female empowerment,” said Janet Donovan, President and CEO of Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania. “What better way for girls to see this than by engaging with women in government leadership roles?”
Troop PA’s mission is to show girls the possibilities in public service and leadership. “Representation inspires possibility,” added Kim E. Fraites-Dow, CEO of Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania. “If you can see it, you can be it.”
Patricia Burkart, CEO of Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania, emphasized the program’s long-term impact: “Girls need the courage to enter male-dominated fields, the confidence to speak on issues, and the skills to drive change. Girl Scouts equips them to do it all.”
For the first time, Troop PA will welcome Girl Scouts from NYPENN Pathways. “We’re thrilled for our members to engage with legislators and their sister councils,” said Julie Dale, CEO of Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways. “This partnership inspires leadership, civic engagement, and positive change.”
The four Girl Scout councils deliver girl-led programs for grades K-12. For more information, visit www.gshpa.org, www.gsep.org, www.gswpa.org, or www.gsnypenn.org.
