Harrisburg, PA (MAY 2025) – On Saturday, May 17, hundreds of Girl Scouts from across Central and Northeastern Pennsylvania will take a meaningful journey, both symbolically and literally, as they cross the Walnut Street Walking Bridge during “Girl Scouts in the Heart of PA Bridges the Susquehanna,” a bridging ceremony hosted by Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania in partnership with Leadership Harrisburg Area.
Girl Scouts of all ages will participate in the time-honored tradition of “bridging,” which celebrates their growth and progression to the next level of the Girl Scout program. While most bridging ceremonies happen at the troop level, this is the first time Girl Scouts in the Heart of PA is hosting a council-wide celebration, bringing together girls and families from across its 30-county footprint for one large-scale event.
“Bridging is a cherished tradition in Girl Scouts,” said Janet Donovan, President and CEO of Girl Scouts in the Heart of PA. “It marks a girl’s growth, celebrates her accomplishments, and signals the exciting journey ahead. These ceremonies are powerful moments, not just for the girls, but for their families and troops as they honor everything each girl has achieved and all that is yet to come.”
The celebration will include music, food, and games.
